The 56th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Medical Education
Congress President Hiroko Okinaga, M.D., Ph.D.
Vice President of Teikyo University
Professor, Department of Internal Medicine

We are pleased to announce that the 56th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Medical Education will be held at Teikyo University on August 9-10, 2024. It is a significant honor for us to have been selected as the host institution for this upcoming Meeting, especially considering it has been since the 10th Meeting in 1978 under the chairmanship of the founding Professor Junichi Suzuki of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology.

Since its establishment in 1971, the School of Medicine at Teikyo University has strived to foster “good doctors” under the founding principles espoused by the University’s first president, Dr. Shoichi Okinaga. The Itabashi Campus is located on the site where the historically renowned Kaga Clan lived, part of the Musashino Plateau. The campus is a hub for the School of Medicine, the Faculty of Pharma-Science, the Faculty of Medical Technology, and the Hospital affiliated with the School of Medicine, where health professions education is provided in multidisciplinary collaboration.

“Diversity and Inclusion: Health Professions Education to Broaden Horizons” is the conference’s theme. The Model Core Curriculum for Medical Education (revised in 2022) outlines the importance of preparing medical professionals who proactively engage in bridging diverse settings and individuals with a perspective to future societies and communities. Today’s medical education cultivates the essential attributes and abilities required for a medical practitioner, who necessitates multidisciplinary collaboration to effectively contribute to a diverse and evolving society. This is why we aim to provide a platform for a multitude of participants to convene at Teikyo University Itabashi Campus, where cross-disciplinary collaborative health professions education is taking place, to share the latest knowledge and perspectives from Japan and around the world. In response to the diversified patient population, people’s way of life, and societal structure, maximizing the diversity in health professions education is imperative. Furthermore, the number of female medical students and doctors is increasing, and the advancement of female health professionals is a crucial matter.

We sincerely hope to welcome everyone to Teikyo University Itabashi Campus from home and abroad.
